Somerset couple Jonas Pollard and Margaux Dumas have taken a bold step towards their dream adventure. They recently quit their jobs to embark on a two-year cycling journey across 15 countries, a mission fueled by their desire to improve their communication and teamwork skills. This ambitious endeavor will take them from Alaska to Argentina, covering a total distance of 20,500 miles (33,000 km).
What makes this journey even more meaningful is the charitable aspect. Jonas and Margaux aim to raise £33,000 for two worthy causes: World Bicycle Relief and Sue Ryder Charity. The latter holds a special place in their hearts as it was where Jonas' mother, Maggie, received end-of-life care. Jonas expressed his gratitude, saying, 'I wanted to give something back to the incredible space [Sue Ryder's Leckhampton Court Hospice] where my mum received care.'
This isn't Jonas' first charity cycling endeavor. He has previously cycled around Europe for a cancer charity, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact. However, Margaux is a novice cyclist, making the challenge even more impressive. Despite her lack of experience, she is determined to complete the journey, stating, 'I'm going to have a lot of happy tears at the end.'
One of the highlights of their journey will be cycling through Peru and Bolivia, where the mountains are described as 'otherworldly.' They will also need to be prepared for the bears that will be waking from hibernation. Jonas and Margaux's adventure is a testament to their courage and dedication, proving that taking a leap of faith can lead to incredible experiences and meaningful contributions to society.
